Well, as the end of this day comes near, I just want to wish myself a happy birthday. Thanks to everyone that came out and spent time with me, I had a blast all weekend. Though I do have to say that the highlight was watching JJ catch his first fish (thanks Uncle Joe!)

Though hanging out on Mom and Dad's new boat was the cat's meow! Kelly and JJ also loved it, we took it for a cruise around the lake again today - it's perfect for catching some rays...

I know it's a week late, but I hope you have had a safe 4th of July weekend. We did, ours was great as JJ was able to stay up for the first time to watch the fireworks at Mom and Dad's house. We did lots of other things too, but watching JJ enjoy the fireworks was a big highlight.

I am also in the process of changing photo gallery software, you may have noticed the two different sidebar plugins. I was hoping to have the gallery customized before I switched it over, but it doesn't look like that will happen soon. In the meantime, I have uploaded some new photos to the gallery, you can find them here:

July 4th Photos

The main reason for the change in software is the new gallery is compatible with the PicLens photo viewing software. If you haven't checked out piclens yet, you have to install it and see it to believe it. It will blow your mind.

Another of my childhood heroes, George Carlin, has died today. I still remember endlessly watching his "Carlin on Campus" comedy special that I taped off HBO in the mid '80s. When I heard this news this morning, I was playing that special in my mind.

Here's one of my favorite quotes of his:

"The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done. "

I think I will have to find some of his old videos to watch over the next weekend or two...

I hope I'm not telling you anything new, but if you are going to shop online - NEVER , EVER use your debit (check) card. You are just asking for problems, especially if the online merchant takes you to the cleaners.

You are aware of the fact that there are companies out there that do nothing but collect data about you, right? You're also aware that these companies SELL the data that they collect about you to other companies and the government, right? RIGHT?

Unfortunately you can't stop them from collecting and selling the data, but you can at least make sure that the data is accurate. Over in the SlickDeals forum is a post regarding how you can do just that:

Free insurance, employment history, and tenant history reports.

Be sure to take advantage of this at least once every 12 months - and don't forget to check your credit reports as well.

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was not in their bed.

She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him and finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall.

She watches as he wiped a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee.

"What's the matter, dear?" she whispers as she steps into the room. "Why are you down here at this time of night?"

The husband looks up from is coffee, "Do you remember 20 years ago when we were dating, and you were only 16?", he asks solemnly.

The wife is touched to tears thinking that her husband is so caring and sensitive. "Yes, I do," she replies.

The husband paused. The words were not coming easily. "Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car making love?"

"Yes, I remember," said his wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him.

The husband continued. "Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, 'Either you marry my daughter, or I will send you to jail for 20 years?"

"I remember that, too," she replied softly.

He wiped another tear from his cheek and said ... "I would have gotten out today."
