Sadly, I have lost my other grandmother today, for Grandma Irene passed away this afternoon.  She was home, at peace in bed, when she left us.  Thankfully Rob, Toni, and I were blessed with the ability to wish her our love and to pray with her before she went.

Grandma Irene had a big part in how I’ve developed into the person that I am today, and I still owe her a big debt of gratitude.  In some ways, she taught me to be free-spirited, yet cautious, analytical, and somewhat disciplined as well.  She loved to polka, she tried to teach us kids plenty of times, and at family events she was always out on the dance floor in the highest high-heels that we’ve ever seen.

She was also our guardian angel.  If we had troubles, we knew that we could turn to her for at least some good advice on how to make our lives better.  In some ways, she was able to help out with a lot more.  For that, Kelly, JJ, and I owe her a lot of gratitude.

I was talking to Mom earlier, and she mentioned that she had started saying her goodbyes when the dementia first started to set in last year.  That Grandma wasn’t the mom she knew or remembered.  While I’m sad to see her gone, it comforts me to know that she is now the Grandma that we all remember - only just in Heaven where she can put on the heels again and polka to her heart’s content.

We’ll miss you Grandma. - Love, Jay
